CURLY HAIR GURU IN-SALON
We're super excited to have curly hair guru and friend of the salon, Ngahina, in-salon on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th August. With three services on offer, Ngahina's here to to help our curly hair clients embrace and manage the beauty of their curls.
"My name is Ngahina, I'm almost 30 yrs old with almost 10yrs experience working with hair. I took my time and spent 4 years learning and gaining my qualification before leaving Whangarei for the big smoke of Auckland and spending the last 5 years honing my skills by working in both large, fast-paced inner city salons and smaller, one on one boutique style studios.
Hailing from a long line of thick-haired curlies myself, I knew firsthand just how dire the experience of going to the salon was like and so I began my career with the dream of someday specializing in curls and being a safe, judgement-free space for textured clients to be serviced.
Fast forward to 2020 and with travel off the cards I thought what better time to absorb as much information as I could via as many online classes as I could find, then practicing and using the techniques I learnt not only on myself, but all of my family and eventually bringing it back to the salon to share with my curly clients too.
One of the biggest things I've learned is how the "natural hair" space is filled with outdated, bad and plain old misinformation which can make navigating through it all overwhelming and confusing, with lacklustre results and lots of wasted time and money. My mission is to simplify curly haircare so that it is useful, practical and accessible for all. Life is complicated enough, our hair shouldn't be.
I can't wait to come home and be of service to my fellow curlies in the north, I look forward to meeting everyone soon!"
