Knowledge is power

As a salon we want our stylists to be the best they can be. It’s a no-brainer, right! But how do we make that happen? Our solution: upskilling. After all, well-rounded stylists equal happy clients. Well, we’re onto it.

We’re so excited to announce that we’ve received $5,000 through the Regional Business Partner Network. And we are so incredibly grateful! $5,000 is such a good cash injection for our business! There are so many things that money could be spent on: painting over that last green patch in the top corner of the salon, a lil Gucci handbag for each of the team, or 5000 dollar mixtures from the dairy down the road. So many choices! But no, we’re so grateful to have received that grant and we’re investing it right back into where it belongs: our team.

Our stylists have regular training with Dan, however, we know it’s not enough. Dan, albeit amazing at what he does, only knows what he knows. And if we were only to have him training the team we’d end up with a bunch of mini'-me’s! Could you imagine! No no no, we want our stylists to be authentically themselves while learning from an array of industry professionals. And we’ve got two of the best waiting in the wings.

“Success in the industry comes from the right training.”

Cameron Crimshaw—Master Cutter and trainer extraordinaire

Cameron Crimshaw’s reputation precedes him. Cameron’s career in the hair industry spans 30 years, across the UK and NZ, and includes bringing Toni&Guy over from AUS to NZ in 1998. At the crux of it all, Cameron has been able to do what he loves: cut hair, connect with people and help hairdressers learn their craft. Not to mention he’s trained many successful local stylists in the process. Cameron is a force to be reckoned with!
We’ve previously had the privilege to have training sessions with our team in the past. Now, we’re thrilled to have him continue to train our team and hone their cutting technique on a frequent basis. As Cameron says, success comes from the right training. And if he’s the best, our stylists will be too.

But Hairdressing isn’t just about colour and cut, and style. There’s a plethora of soft skills that comes with the process: professionalism, retention, rebooking, pairing clients with the right products, and the list goes on. These are all usually learnt on the job, and unfortunately, often taken for granted or neglected over time. But they’re just as important as the styling! Enter Paul Wacker. Paul has had 20 years in the Hair and Beauty Industry and in that time has held positions within Educational Management through to General Management with world leading international Hair and Beauty companies. Oh, did I mention he’s an award winning stylist too?
Paul has a rich and broad knowledge base which makes him the perfect coach for our team. We’re stoked to have him on our side and are chomping at the bit to soak up as much as we can from him.

Training sessions with Cameron and Paul have already begun and we’re beyond excited to soak up as much knowledge as we can from our industry masters.

Upskilling will benefit our team which will also benefit our clients. It’s a two for one! What a bargain. But while the costs of it all isn’t a bargain, it is an investment—a worthwhile one at that. And that’s good enough for us!
