Our booking software, Fresha, recently launched a new feature to take your booking experience to the next level and make managing appointments a breeze. Introducing deposits!

Now, I know what you’re thinking, “That’s all well and good but what does it actually mean?” In short, it’s just one easy extra step.
Upon booking an appointment either in-salon or online, you’ll receive an email, txt, and/or notification asking you to secure your appointment by paying a deposit through Fresha’s quick and secure payment portal. It’s easy and feels just the same as an online shopping checkout. Except you don’t have to wait for the courier to deliver the package. You leave your appointment wearing the package. You are the package!
The deposit isn’t a fee or an extra amount on top of your service total. It’s just a portion of your appointment’s service total. So you pay a portion upfront and then the remainder at checkout after your appointment.
Told you it’s easy peasy. But there is some nitty gritty too:
The deposit is to be paid at least a week prior to the appointment.
Deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable.
You can reschedule your appointment once and your deposit will be shifted to that future booking.
In the event of a late cancellation or a no-show to your appointment, we retain your deposit.
For us and our team, deposits act as a form of protection of our time. Imagine, a client books a three hour appointment weeks in advance, but decides to cancel five minutes prior, or worse, doesn’t show up. That’s a massive appointment lost and at such short notice is pretty impossible to fill, which results in a loss for us and the stylist. At least with a deposit it reassures us that the client is going to show up. And if not, at least we can recoup the deposit.
For some, the deposit feature has not only been embraced, but celebrated. With a chunk of the appointment pre-paid for, on the day it means a little extra to invest in home haircare. But for others, paying a deposit may require some getting used to. We totally get that. So if you’d rather not pay the deposit via Fresha’s secure payment portal, please feel free to pop into the salon to pay it.
We understand that introducing deposits is a change to how we used to do things. It’s a learning curve for us too while we embed the feature in our day-to-day. But we’re really enjoying the confirmation we’re getting as a result and trust our clients can see the benefits involved too.
